Who We Are

Collegium Hall is an independent, self-governed scholarly society which provides individual mentoring and community life to undergraduate and graduate students. Our mission is to cultivate intellectual excellence and human flourishing by integrating university studies and character development.

We are founded on the belief that the college experience can become more personal and humane; that it is a formative period in which to develop strong moral character, confidence, and life skills that will last well beyond a student’s college career.

Collegium Hall is organized as a Cooperative Association in the State of Minnesota.  This means that Collegium Hall is a collegial and cooperative community uniting students and educators to operate as much as possible at-cost, in order to provide a more affordable college experience for its members, much like a non-profit, but with greater autonomy and freedom than a conventional 501(c)(3).  It also means that Collegium Hall is democratically governed – each member has a voice in the governance and activities of the Collegium, and so takes ownership of his or her intellectual and moral formation.

Collegium Hall consists of two classes of membership:
(1) Fellows – experienced scholars who work for Collegium Hall as tutors, instructors, and administrators
(2) Student Members – both undergraduate & graduate students attending classes at local colleges and universities who enjoy the community life and scholarly enrichment provided by Collegium Hall.
